During August 2018 at KCPC:
The Congregation was Invited to take---
A News Media Holiday!
In his sermon on July 29th, Pastor Bob invited the congregation to take a vacation or holiday during the month of August. Specifically he encouraged folks to not watch cable and network news broadcasts and to not listen to talk radio. He asked that we limit our news to our local WMUR newscasts, or to just read the newspaper. For the really brave he invited folks to take a holiday from social media as well. If you join in and participate in this opportunity, try to pay attention to your emotional, spiritual and physical states. Also, note what you do with your spare time. At the end of August, reflect on this question: Do national news media and talk radio, inform or provoke you?

In his sermon on September 2nd, Pastor Bob brought the News Media Holiday experiment to a close by sharing the reflections of those KCPCers who participated. Reactions varied among those who shared their experiences. Most were positive and found the experiment to be helpful for their overall well being. However, a significant number found themselves needing to watch and view the news, but did so with an awareness of how it was impacting their emotions and overall wellness. Many who continued to watch the news and listened to talk radio, came to realize how doing so had an impact on their emotions. While a New Media Holiday is not for everyone, most found it helpful.
