The Rural Community Action Ministry (RCAM) has been a mission project in which KCPC members have participated since the mid-1990’s. RCAM is an ecumenical ministry program that has assisted the elderly, disabled, or impoverished citizens in 13 communities in and around Androscoggin County in central Maine.
The KCPC participants travel to Leeds, Maine the second week in September to perform various tasks related to housing rehabilitation. The work accomplished under the direction of the RCAM staff assists people in their efforts to remain in their homes in need of repair or general maintenance. Although the actual number of participants is usually only 10-12 members, this ministry is very generously supported by the congregation with financial contributions or with donations of food thus reducing the cost for the participants. A session allocation also contributes substantially to the support of this project. Over the years the collaboration between KCPC and RCAM has resulted in strong and enduring friendships. |
